The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) is set to host the 6th edition of the African Education Technology Conference (Edutech).

The conference with the theme: ‘Building an Effective African Edutech Ecosystem for Global Impact’, will take place at the UBEC digital resource centre in Abuja from October 29 to October 31.

The conference is organised by the Nigerian-British Chamber of Commerce (NBCC) in collaboration with EduFirst Nigeria.

Bashir Galandaci, coordinator of the UBEC digital resource centre, said the commission understands the importance of technology in learning which formed the basis for the conference.

He said the conference is significant as it would help forge partnerships with relevant stakeholders and reposition universal basic education in the country.

“UBEC through the digital resources centre has gradually reached out to EdTech companies from different parts of the country to establish strong partnerships that will help in radically transforming universal basic education in the country,” he said.

“We are looking forward to hosting the forthcoming Africa EdTech conference in October 2024 at the digital resource centre because of the enormous benefits it would bring to the promotion of basic education in our country.

Macjohn Nwabiaola, chairman board of trustees of EduFirst Nigeria, said the conference is aimed at revitalising the education system using technology and innovation.

Nwabiaola said there is a need to bring the nation’s education system up to speed with global best practices.

“We are in a world where things are changing and we must ensure that our children are enabled to compete globally when it comes to education,” he said.
