The UK Department for International Development (DFID) has announced a medical fellowship for doctors in developing countries.
Midcareer staff who qualified to become doctors between October 1, 2007 and September 30, 2010, can apply for a Commonwealth fellowship to spend a learning period of three to six months at a UK university hospital.
The fellowship will commence on October 1, 2017 and fellows will be expected to participate in clinical practice during their fellowships. They will also be expected to register with the general medical council in the UK.
The DFID says its aim is to “contribute to UK’s international interests, supporting excellence in UK higher education and sustaining the principles of common wealth”.
It says the purpose of the fellowship “is to provide mid career workers the opportunity to learn or improve their clinical skills and to have a catalytic effect in their work place”.
Application closes on November 15, 2016.
