The United States of America has donated some bomb disposal equipment to Nigeria, outgoing spokesman of the Nigeria police, Frank Mba, has said.

The US ambassador to Nigeria, Mr James Entwistle (pictured), who paid a courtesy visit to inspector-general of police, (IGP) Suleiman Abba, on Wednesday in Abuja, handed over the equipment to the police.

Disclosing the development, Mba said that the ambassador congratulated the IGP on his new appointment, and thanked the force for its high level of cooperation and huge partnership with the US Embassy in Nigeria.

“The ambassador thereafter presented high tech bomb disposal robots/equipment to the Nigeria police force. He also reassured the Ag. IGP that his country will continue to render relevant supports to the Force in the areas of training and security cooperation,” he said.

“While responding, the IGP appreciated the ambassador’s courtesy visit and thanked the US government for assisting the Nigeria police force in areas of investigation, management of scene of crime as well as position of equipment.

“Describing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) executed by the Nigeria Police Force and the US government recently as a huge partnership that will improve and modernize police training in Nigeria, the IGP restated his commitment to continuing to drive reforms and transformation of the force in order to re-position it for better service delivery. He promised that the newly donated equipment would be put to effective use.”
