Hope Uzodinma, governor of Imo state, says the federal government is working to end crude oil theft in the country.

Crude oil theft has impacted the country adversely, with Nigeria losing billions of dollars in revenue.

While speaking to State House correspondents in Abuja on Thursday, Uzodinma said he came to brief Vice-President Kashima Shettima on the progress made by his committee.

The Imo governor is the chairman of the national economic council (NEC) sub-committee on crude oil theft prevention.

He said the committee is working to tame the “monster” of oil theft.

“We had a very positive discussion. It is still a work in progress. At the end of the day, we are going to bring a final solution to this monster called crude oil theft,” Uzodinma said.

Speaking on the efforts to reconcile Abdullahi Ganduje, national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Rabiu Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano, Uzodinma said the interest of the people is all that matters.

“Government is one and no matter the political party you belong to, we are one,” he said.

“At the end of the day, what we are looking for is how to ensure that the ordinary man on the street is taken care of and there is security for all of us and the welfare of our citizens is also protected, which is the primary purpose of the government.

“Kano is not only important to APC but to Nigeria, so it’s an important state for all of us.

“NNPP is a political party, APC is a political party. The most important thing is the interest of Nigerians and the people.”
