Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers, has asked residents of the state not to participate in the #RevolutionNow protest.
Wike gave the directive in a statement by Simeon Nwakaudu, his special assistant on electronic media.
The governor asked the security agencies in the state to take all necessary steps in prosecuting those who stage the protest in the state.
He said the state does not subscribe to what the protest represents.
“Rivers state does not subscribe to what the RevolutionNow protest represents and Rivers State is not part of the protest,” Wike said.
“All council chairmen are directed to be at alert. If they suspect any illegal gathering, they should report to the security agencies for immediate action.”
Omoyele Sowore, presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) and convener of the protest, had called for the demonstration against “bad governance.”
The Department of State Services (DSS) arrested Sowore 48 hours to the kick off the demonstration.
The police have also described the protest as acts of “terrorism and treason”.
