Yobe commissioner dies in car crash

Goni Lawal, Yobe commissioner for youths and sports, is dead.

Tijjani Ciroma, spokesperson of the ministry, confirmed the news on Wednesday.

He said Lawal died in a car accident on Potiskum-Azare road around 7:30 pm on Tuesday.

Ciroma said the deceased, aged 57, was on his way to Kano to board a flight to Abuja for an official function.

The spokesperson said funeral prayers for the deceased will take place by 11 am at Yobe Islamic Centre, Damaturu.

Lawal was appointed as a commissioner in 2019.

He was a member of the house of representatives from 2007 to 2015.

Last Friday, Omotayo Sanyaolu, senior special assistant to the Lagos governor on tertiary education, youth and student affairs, died in an auto-crash.

The accident occurred within the vicinity of the army cantonment in Maryland, Ikeja area of Lagos.
