The death toll from a suicide bombing at the Jimeta market in Yola, capital of Adamawa state, has risen to 45.

The attack happened around 7:30 pm on Thursday.

“Ten more people died this morning,” Othman Abubakar, the state police spokesman, told Reuters, adding that 40 people were responding to treatment.

On Friday, the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Yola, appealed to members of the public to donate blood to the victims.

Mohammed Dodo, public relations officer of the centre, said the hospital blood bank and other facilities such as drugs had been overstretched as a result of the incident.

About 80 people have been killed in renewed attacks since the inauguration of President Muhammadu Buhari last Friday.

Buhari has promised to tackle insurgency head-on, directing that the military command centre be relocated to Maiduguri, capital of Borno state, which has recorded over five attacks in the last one week.
