PSG ‘accept Al Hilal’s world-record £259m bid’ for Mbappe

PSG ‘accept Al Hilal’s world-record £259m bid’ for Mbappe

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) have reportedly accepted Al Hilal’s world-record bid of €300 million (£259m) to sign Kylian Mbappe.

According to Sky News, the French champions have given Mbappe permission to speak to the Saudi Pro League side.

The French captain is unlikely to play for PSG again unless he agrees to extend his contract.

Skysports, BBC Sport and Guardian UK earlier reported that Al-Hilal are willing to have the forward for only one season if that is what it takes to get the deal done.

The bid comes on the heels of Mbappe’s feisty relationship with PSG.

Mbappe, who was convinced to sign a new two-year contract while on the verge of a free transfer to Real Madrid last summer, had written a letter to PSG of his intention not to renew his contract that ends next summer, much to the anger of the Paris-based club.

In response, the French League champions gave the 24-year-old an ultimatum to sign a new contract or leave the club this summer. He was also exempted from the club’s pre-season tour of Japan.

It was gathered that Al-Hilal will try to tempt Mbappé with a world-record salary.

If Mbappe accepts to join the Saudi club, he will be moving for a world-record transfer fee, more than the £222 million PSG paid to sign Neymar Jr. from Barcelona.

Other clubs interested in the player include debt-ridden Barcelona, free-spending Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham, and Inter Milan. Real Madrid hope to sign the French national team captain for free next summer.

Mbappe has played 260 matches and scored 212 since joining PSG in 2017, winning four Ligue 1 titles. He is the club’s all-time leading scorer and has been its highest goalscorer for the last five seasons.
