Timi Alaibe, former managing director the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), has withdrawn from of the primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the December 5 governorship election.
Alaibe announced the decision on Wednesday, saying he was trying to avoid a crisis situation that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would use to defeat the APC at the end of the day.
A fresh primary election is currently underway in Bayelsa as a result of the violence that marred the previous one.
“I am not oblivious of the fundamental fact that we all need a virile, united, cohesive and collaborative APC to bring about our desires to fruition,” read a statement issued by Alaibe.
“Not only do we need this, APC deserves every sacrifice, including personal interests, to arrive at the envisaged destination come February, 2016.
“Whereas I am confident that I have the required support of my admirers and supporters as well as the needed backing of Bayelsans to govern them, the hurdles set on the way of this noble project are seemingly tempestuous and capable of overheating the APC in Bayelsa.”
Alaibe was one of the aspirants who sought the ticket of the party for the December 5 governorship election.
