Amuneke: We hope to do better in Niger

Amuneke: We hope to do better in Niger

Golden Eaglets coach, Emmanuel Amuneke, wants to surpass the achievements of the immediate past Eaglets team in an African under-17 championship.

As the team continue final preparations for the 2015 African under-17 championship in Niger Republic, Amuneke is looking to better the feat of the Manu Garba-led team – which he was a part of – who came second to Cote d’Ivoire in the 2013 championship held in Morocco.

“We did well the last time in Morocco but this time we are hoping to do better. We want to win the tournament in Niger Republic and I have this to my players,” Amuneke told sl10.ng.

“Our preparation have been going smoothly so far and we hope it continues this way till we get to Niger Republic, but we understand the challenge we have.”

Despite his optimism, the former Super Eagles winger expects a tough competition from the other teams.

“We know it is not going to be easy, it’s going to be tough and we are preparing for that. The other teams will also be going there with the aim of winning and we cannot underrate any team.”

“We always have to show respect to our opponents but we still have to play our game however it is, and hopefully we shall succeed.”

The Golden Eaglets have been drawn alongside host Niger Republic, Guinea and Zambia for the 11th edition of the championship which will hold from February 15 to March 1.
