Hope is fading fast

Federal Government should seek international help without shame in the search of the abducted secondary school girls.

This is the position of the women wing of All Progressives Party (APC) as the fate of over 200 secondary school girls kidnapped last month in Chibok, Borno State, remains unknown.

They have also asked the government to be prepared to rehabilitate the girls when they are eventually rescued.

This will be done through “trauma counselling” by mental health experts because of what they must have gone through.

The APC National Interim Woman Leader, Sharon Ikeazor, made the call yesterday, at the APC women media engagement workshop.

She said the fact that the girls have not been rescued so far was giving the impression that Nigeria and her security agents were either overwhelmed or limited in their rescue operations.

She has also called on  the Ministry of Education to move all the children in the troubled spots in the north-east to schools in safer areas.

Ikeazor said: “We call on Nigeria to ask for help from member Nations of the UN Security Council to join the search and rescue operation.

“To the Nigerian Army, we know you are operating under a difficult situation and are demoralised but you must rise to the challenge, you have won commendations and laurels in UN peace keeping missions outside of Nigeria, we believe you can do the same in your home.

“To our abducted daughters, please remember Malala – the 16-year-old Pakistani girl who stood up to Taliban and defended her right to education.

“You all have courage despite the security situation in your area, to continue with your education. You will come home and complete your education. We will not rest till every single one of you is returned home. Malala has put education at the top of the global development agenda. And so have you.

“We strongly condemn this re‎cent tactic by Boko Haram. This is barbaric and inhumane. Every religion abhors this act. Nigeria must rise up and protect our women and children.

“To the parents, we can only imagine the daily trauma, pain and agony that you are going through. We the APC Women, stand and empathise with you in this grief; every single day, every hour, every minute, every second counts!”
