Council chairmen will be elected not appointed, says Abiodun

Dapo Abiodun, governor of Ogun state, says local government area (LGA) council chairmen will not be appointed, but elected into office.

According to a statement by Olakunle Somorin, his spokesman, the governor said this in Abeokuta, the state capital, at an event to welcome new members into the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Abiodun assured residents that the upcoming local government elections will be free and fair.

He also noted that the timetable for the election will be released soon.

“Very soon, the timetable for the election will be released. We will not appoint chairmen for you at all. Chairmanship will not be by appointment; it will be by election. Everyone should continue to work hard,” he said.

Abiodun also spoke on developmental projects in the state, and noted that his administration will continue to adopt the bottom-up approach which gives the people the power to choose projects that directly affect them.

He added that the state government will commission the Sagamu-Abeokuta expressway within the next 60 days, along with other projects by May.

He also urged the new members to continue to work hard towards the continued development of the party and the state.
