Nigerian pop star, David Adeleke also known as Davido, has beaten leading artistes to become the first Nigerian celebrity to hit one million followers on photo sharing network, Instagram.

The multi-award winning artiste beat Mavin crew boss, Don Jazzy and singing sensation, Wizkid to the one million mark on Wednesday.

With 150,000 followers in February, 2014, Wizkid has been able to grow his followership to 940,000, becoming the most followed Nigerian celebrity on Instagram until Davido took over.

Don Jazzy, who stood at 91,000 in February 2014 came as close as 738,000 followers when Davido hit the milestone.

While Don Jazzy is the first Nigerian music celebrity to be verified on Instagram, Davido is awaiting verification.

Omo baba olowo, as Davido is fondly called, announced the feat via his Twitter account, appreciating his followers for their loyalty.

“Big thank you to all my followers and fans around the world, you are the realest, you’re the best,” he wrote, adding that he would hit two million soon.

Davido also has a large following on other social media platforms, with 1.38 million followers on Twitter and 1.5 million on Facebook.
