Governors to set up team to dialogue with national assembly over creation of state police
The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) is currently holding a meeting at the state house conference center in Abuja.
Top on the agenda of the meeting, which started at 9pm, is the creation of state police.
TheCable understands that the governors are considering nominating a team that will interface with the national assembly over the creation of state police.
During a security meeting organised by the senate last week, Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo who gave the opening remark said state police “is the way to go”.
After this, the governors made a strong case for the decentralisation of the police.
Those at the ongoing meeting presided over by Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara are Rotimi Akeredolu (Ondo), Mohammed Abubakar (Bauchi), Abdullahi Ganduje (Kano) and Nasir el-Rufai (Kaduna).
Others are Kashim Shettima (Borno), Atiku Bagudu (Kebbi), Yahaya Bello (Kogi), Abdulfatah Ahmed (Kwara) Ekiti, and Tanko Al-Makura (Nasarawa).
