The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has approached a federal high court in Kaduna to challenge the eligibility of candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

In the suit before Hadiza Shagari, the judge, the NNPP is seeking a court order disqualifying the Kaduna APC governorship and state house of assembly candidates from participating in the 2023 elections.

The NNPP claimed that the candidates on the list published by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) did not win through legal or due process as required by the Electoral Act, 2022 “and other existing legislation” on the conduct of party primaries.

The party is, therefore, praying the court to order INEC to “act appropriately by removing the APC candidates from the list of candidates who are qualified to run in the general election in Kaduna State in 2023”.

According to NAN, the case, which came up for mention on Friday, was adjourned till September 15 for hearing.

The judge explained that the case was adjourned on the grounds that all the parties were yet to be served the critical documents and processes which were filed before the court by INEC.

Wole Agunbiade, the NNPP lead counsel, told the court that he was yet to be served by INEC.

Meanwhile, Sule Shuaibu, APC’s lead counsel who said he had been served, told the court that he needed more time to study the documents before filing his motion.
