Donatus Nwankpa, chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia state, who was kidnapped on Monday, has been released.

According to Punch, Nwankpa was released on Thursday in good health.

Benedict Godson, publicity secretary of the APC in the state, said party members pleaded with the abductors to release their chairman as he was a good man.

We thank God for his safe return and we appreciate all those who, in one way or the other, contributed to his safe return,” Godson said.

“We also want to thank our governorship candidate and other leaders of the party in the state for standing with us since he was kidnapped.”

Nwankpa was kidnapped by unknown gunmen on his way to Aba hours before President Muhammadu Buhari flagged off his campaign in the state.

The driver of the APC leader was also said to have been kidnapped but his personal assistant reportedly escaped.

Nwankpa was said to have withdrawn huge sums of money at a bank in the state and disbursed some of the money to members of the planning committee for Buhari’s campaign.
