Joseph Mbu, the newly-redeployed assistant inspector general in charge of Zone 2 comprising Lagos and Ogun states, has warned that he would not tolerate any form of lawlessness in his new zone.

Speaking with journalists on Friday, Mbu, who courted controversy when he was commissioner of police in Rivers state, denied the allegation that he was transferred to Zone 2 for a political hatchet job.

Mbu’s redeployment to states under the control of opposition parties had generated different reactions, particularly on social media.

Joe Igbokwe, the publicity secretary of the APC in Lagos state, alleged that the transfer of the immediate past AIG of zone 7 had a political undertone.

But the police boss said: “At the appropriate time, I will respond to this allegation.

“I reserve my comment on the spurious allegation by the APC in Lagos state; I will not say APC in general. I am not going to Lagos to fight but I will not tolerate lawlessness.”

Mbu also dismissed insinuation that he was controversial officer, saying: “I am not controversial. I love my job; I am very proud of my job and I do my job very, very well. I am not afraid of anybody in the execution of my job.

“Anywhere I go, I am not a politician. Any governor is not my enemy, any of the ministers is not my enemy, the enemy of anybody is not my enemy.”
