Minister: Violence against migrant children, women, PWDs unacceptable

Pauline Tallen, minister of women affairs, says she will address all forms of violence against migrant children, women and persons with disabilities (PWD) in the country.

Tallen made the commitment when she received a delegation from the International Organization for Migration (IOM) on Tuesday.

The delegation was led by Pretage Murina, deputy chief of mission, accompanied by Chibalani Katonga, the protection officer of the organisation.

The minister expressed concern over the surge of violence against vulnerable humans, adding that “her heart bleeds when she heard about migrants with disabilities, vulnerable women and children migrants who have lost their identities and who added to their deprivations, are being subjected to all sorts of abuses and exploitation”.

“As cases of migrants that are exposed to all forms of abuse particularly, the boys, girls and women migrants are becoming alarming in recent times, the honourable minister of women affairs, Dame Pauline Tallen, OFR, KSG has said that this is unacceptable as all violations to human persons, will be addressed tenaciously,” the statement reads.

The minister assured the organisation of her ministry’s commitment to addressing issues of abuses against migrants in the country.

She also expressed concern about the over 1,000 Nigerians currently in the transit camp in Niger Republic and promised to ensure their return.
