The Christmas message of Matthew Kukah, bishop of Sokoto Catholic diocese, dominated the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The PUNCH says the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) have clashed over allegations by Matthew Kukah, bishop of Sokoto Catholic diocese, that President Muhammadu Buhari failed to fulfil his 2015 electoral promises. The newspaper reports that the federal government has proposed the suspension of tax relief granted to companies established in locations lacking public infrastructure, who are providing electricity, water and other amenities for themselves.

The Nation reports that moves for the inclusion of fresh projects in the 2023 budget are responsible for the delay of the appropriation bill by the national assembly. Economic experts have said multiple exchange rates and the retention of petrol subsidy payments are unhelpful to the economy, the newspaper says.

Daily Sun says Buhari said he will not live in Abuja, the country’s capital, after the expiration of his tenure on May 29, 2023. The newspaper reports that Kukah said the Buhari-led administration has destroyed every aspect of life in Nigeria.

Business Day says Nigerians travelling by road from major cities like Lagos and Abuja to other parts of the country are paying exorbitant fares to transporters.
