President Muhammadu Buhari has presented the 2022 public service integrity award to Daniel Itse Amah, a police officer who rejected $200,000 from a robber.

Amah led the operation that resulted in the arrest of Ali Zaki, a suspected robber involved in the theft of N320,500,000 in Kano state.

In an attempt to cover up the crime, Zaki reportedly offered to bribe Amah but he rejected it.

The president’s decision to confer the award on Amah was informed by a recommendation from Bolaji Owasanoye, chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

The recommendation was contained in a letter dated September 13, 2022.

At an event on Tuesday in Abuja, Buhari asked Nigerians holding public offices to emulate the police officer.

“We need to kill corruption for Nigeria to move forward,” the president said.

Abdullahi Kiyawa, spokesman of the Kano command, described Amah’s work ethic as “outstanding”.

Amah is currently the divisional police officer (DPO) in charge of the Nasarawa division in Kano.
