Police officer killed as armed robbers attack bank in Osun

A police officer was killed on Tuesday when armed robbers attacked a bank in Iragbiji, Boripe LGA of Osun state.

According to NAN, the robbers arrived at the bank around 3pm and operated for about 30 minutes.

Several persons were said to have sustained various degrees of injuries while the operation lasted.

Yemisi Opalola, the spokesperson of the Osun police command, confirmed the incident.

Opalola said the police tactical team had been deployed to the area, but could not confirm the number of casualties.

“We are already there. We have deployed our tactics team to the area. We are on the top of the situation,” he said.

“We will give you full details later.”

NAN quoted a witness as saying the armed robbers first attacked a police station in the town before they carried out their operations on the bank.

The witness said in the process of attacking the police station, the police officer was killed.

The armed robbers were said to have engaged the police in a gun duel before they fled the scene.
