Troops of Operation Hadin Kai, in collaboration with civilian joint task force (CJTF), have reportedly killed eleven fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Borno.
According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, the fighters were killed during a gun duel between the terrorist group and the Nigerian troops.
The publication said between May 31 and June 4, 2023, the troops launched an intelligence-led offensive into the terrorists’ hideouts within the Damboa and Chibok LGAs of the state.
Sources in the military told the publication that during the 5-day operation, the troops cleared some of ISWAP’s hideouts in Bale, Tirke, Mandari, Molgoi, Bego, Yarwa, Ngurna communities of the state.
One of the sources added that weapons, ammunition and other logistics were recovered during the joint military operations.
TheCable had reported how 73 fighters of the same group —including their family members — surrendered to the troops of sector 1, Operation Hadin Kai, in Borno.
Zagazola Makama said 42 of the insurgents and their family members — comprising four males, 10 females and 28 children from Bula Bello, Zaramari and Garno villages — turned themselves in on Wednesday.
They were received by the troops of 202 battalion of 21 armoured brigade in Bama.
