Troops repel ISWAP attacks in Borno

The troops of 25 task force brigade  have repelled an attack by the Islamic State of the West African Province (ISWAP) in Damboa LGA of Borno state.

According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on Lake Chad region, the terrorists launched an attack on the troops along Damboa-Azir road, but the troops swiftly responded to the attack and forced the terrorists to withdraw in disarray.

A source who spoke with the publication said: “Though the terrorists were repelled, and their mission thwarted after a brutal gunfire, I cannot give the actual number of casualties they could have suffered.”

Following the foiling of the attack, the troops reportedly chased the terrorists through their escape route but no further contact was made.

In a similar manner, the troops of 68 battalion, while conducting a fighting patrol around Kudankurgu general area located in south of Mallam Fatori in Abadam LGA, came in contact with gunmen of the ISWAP group.

The troops also successfully repelled the attack and forced the terrorists to withdraw.

On October 12, troops of the of 25 task force brigade killed six ISWAP fighters in Borno in a gun duel that took the life of one soldier.
