Two killed in auto crash involving convoy of Sokoto deputy governor

Two persons have died from an auto crash involving the convoy of Muhammad Gobir, deputy governor of Sokoto state.

Gobir was on an official assignment when the accident occurred along Goronyo road in Sabon Birni LGA.

Confirming the development to TheCable, Rufai Ahmad, police spokesperson in the state, said the auto crash occurred around 6 pm to 7 pm on Wednesday.

“Yes, it’s true. The two persons that died were a photographer and a policeman among the convoy of the deputy governor,” he said.

“The incident happened around 6 to 7 pm pm. Some of the passengers in the convoy sustained injuries.

“They are currently at the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital (UDUTH) where they are receiving treatment.

“The accident did not involve another vehicle not in the convoy. It was a self accident.

“It happened in Sabon Birni LGA along Goronyo road. The deputy governor was on official duty when the auto crash occurred.

“The number of the injured persons is not yet verified. I am currently at the funeral prayer of those that died in the auto crash. We just concluded the prayers. You can confirm that later.”
