A vigilante group on Tuesday prevented the Boko Haram sect from wreaking havoc on Kalabalge, a village about 155 miles from Maiduguri, Borno State capital.

The Associated Press reports that following a tip-off, the group ambushed two trucks of gunmen, killing 200 and arresting scores of them.

Residents of Kalabalge said the inability of the military to contain the chaotic situation in the state prompted them to form the group.

“It is impossible for militants to stage attacks here. Boko Haram cannot come in here and start shooting and killing people,” said Ajid Musa, a trader in the village.

The activities of the Boko Haram militants have almost turned some parts of Nigeria into a lawless place.

Attempt on the part of government to restore normalcy has yielded no meaningful result, as the sect strikes at will, leaving trails of sorrow on their victims.
