Kula Magaji, chairman of the association of people living with disabilities (PWDs) in Karu local government area of Nasarawa state, has pleaded for inclusivity of members in governance.
Putting forward his case during an interview with NAN, he said engaging PWDs in governance will help in decision-making that will improve the quality of their lives.
He expressed displeasure that despite the existence of the Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act, 2018, many people still discriminate against them regarding appointments.
He implored governments at all levels to ensure the compulsory provision of slots and opportunities during political appointment season, urging the public to regard PWDs as humans rather than persons who beg for a living.
Magaji thanked some non-governmental organisations (NGOs) such as Disability Rights Advocacy Centre, which he said had put together different trainings to empower PWDs.
He appreciated some political office holders for considering some PWDs for appointments.
The Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) bill became law in 2018 after years of relentless advocacy.
