Troops repel ISWAP attack, ‘kill six terrorists’ in Borno

Troops of 5 Brigade Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) on Friday repelled an attack by the Islamic State West African Province (ISWAP) in Damasak town in Borno state.

According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, the terrorists ambushed the troops while they were on patrol.

The publication said the troops engaged the terrorists in a gun duel, forcing the criminals to withdraw into the bush.

During the encounter, six of the ISWAP fighters were reportedly neutralised while an unconfirmed number of the terrorists were wounded.

The publication said three soldiers were wounded during the encounter, adding that weapons and a bus belonging to the ISWAP fighters were recovered by the troops.

The development comes days after troops of 3 Battalion OPHK repelled an attack by ISWAP on Gamborun Ngala LGA of Borno state.

On October 12, troops of 25 task force brigade killed six ISWAP fighters while repelling an attack in Sabon Gari in Damboa LGA of Borno.
